No, we have a July the 1st. That is Canada Day or as some older people call it, Dominion Day. It is the day that we became a confederation. The British North America Act created the Canadian federal government and we got our first 'Prime Minister', Sir John A. MacDonald. He was in Office from July 1st, 1867 til November of 1873. Our Confederation began on July the 1st, 1867. So, in those terms our bi-centennial is a long way off. By the way, a lot of people here will be celebrating on July the 3rd this year because it just happens to fall on the weekend. Any government office or banks and some businesses won't be open that day. Otherwise, it is celebrated on July 1st.

Of course not! Canada is NOT part of the US!

Canada Day is celebrated on July 1. Canada Day celebrates the events that occurred on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act created the Canadian federal government.

The BNA Act proclaimed "one Dominion under the name of Canada," hence the original title of the holiday, "Dominion Day." Dominion Day was officially renamed "Canada Day" by an Act of Parliament on October 27, 1982. This change reflected the policy of successive governments to down play Canada's colonial origins.

Canada's national celebration is always observed on July 1, unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case it is observed the following day.

No it is not, but here in Detroit, we celebrate something with our Canadian Neighbors across the Detroit River. We call it the Freedom Festival. We have fireworks downtown on the river, and events on both sides of the border. We love our Windsor neighbors.
