Check with local churches, colleges, YMCA/YWCA, apartment complexes, etc. - any place where several potential customers gather/live. You may be able to post something on their bulletin boards.
If your parents are involved in some type of group, ask if they will spread the word to others in the group. They may be permitted to spread the word at work as well. Word of mouth might get you jobs quicker than anything else.
If there is some type of "Welcome Wagon" or other program for people new to your area, consider creating a flyer or business card that they can include to welcome packages.
Good luck!

You need references and babysitting for your 5 little siblings won't be enough. So get some experience under your belt with other people, get references and say, "can I use you as a referree because I value your opinion."
Then put her down and le potential customers call her. Get even a statement out of your referees who you babysitted for.

try posting something up in laundry mats, grocery stores etc, and make little tags at the bottom with your phone number on them so people can tear off the little strips with the # on them and give ya a call. I did this alot and got really good results, you just have to screen them through and don't accept every single one, there are some crazies out there hon.

Make flyers on your computer (spell everything right) and copy them at Kinko's. Distribute them to the mailboxes in your neighborhood as far as you can go. Take and pass the American Red Cross babysitter training class and once you have the training card, stress that training on your flyer. Become lifeguard trained too... that is another need in the summer... private lifeguards for parties and such.

Check the paper for ads looking for one or place an ad to announce the business. Make sure that you have referrals and references, permits and licenses, CPR certification and that the place has been inspected for safety. Look at the local stores and other advertisement places.
