Why is it that our parents tell us not to take candy from strangers, but on halloween they make us do it??

If you said you didn't want to, I'm pretty sure they'd be relieved not to have to make you a costume and drag you around the neighborhood. And traditionally, kids weren't quite so mercenary -- in the smaller towns that were the general rule rather than the exception in the years when the holiday was first celebrated, you KNEW everybody you were getting sweets from. Now, you can't be entirely sure, which is why parents should always inspect the candy before letting their kids dive in. Even though the vast, vast majority of the candy you get will only kill you when you go into a diabetic coma, every few years you'll hear a story about someone tampering with candy, and causes concern for everybody. Personally, if I were you, I'd just stay at home, or go to a fun party instead.

I'm not sure why your parents make you do it. I don't make my children, they want to. It's fun to dress up and go from door to door. It's the only time when my son isn't afraid of new people. The candy is just a bonus.

Because they want free candy and this is the way to get it.

because most of the time they know the people who live in their neighborhood, and they trust them enough to not posion their kids! lol
