It's better to cut them off than to pull them.. so you don't tear the seam. Now, if you're referring to the age old myth that you can go to jail for removing that tags, that's another matter. What the tags prohibit is the removal of the tags by the manufacturer/distributor, and in doing do, protecting the customer from buying something without the information that is provided on the tag.
