portugal have better skill in defending and striking

Portugal played excellent, but at the same time time Netherlands didn't find their way to make a goal. If we look at the ball possession we have 70% for Netherlands and 30% for Portugal.

So its not like Portugal is better, I even think that Netherlands is better. I don't want to offend Portuguese fans, but Netherlands has more opportunities to make goals, and is the team that rules the game.

If the fights wouldn't happen, I think we would get more from both teams, who in the last 20 minutes only tried to calm the things down. Since Cristiano Ronaldos fault the players started to played nervous, because they were afraid to get hurt and loss the opportunity of playing the rest of the world cup, if their team wouldn't win.

Hope we get another game like this, so we can see a soccer match not a box ring.

Because overall they were the better squad.
They scored, the others didn't.
They defended extremely well in a disavantage.
As for the roughness, it came from both sides, as anyone unbiased saw.
Excellent game from both teams. Too bad one of them had to go home.
England should not be celebrating after today's exibition. So far, they have not shown anything remotely close to what Portugal did against the dutch.
Even without Deco and Costinha (Ronaldo has 6 days to recover), Portugal has more than enough to win against England.
We'll see next Saturday.

PS: Liss is a moron...

First of all, it's "why did Portugal win AGAINST Holland." The only way they could win Holland would be if the entire country had been raffled -- an interesting thought.

Portugal won because they played a brilliant tactical game, and of course were ruthless in their defending. The credit goes to the coach, Felipão, and to the many excellent and determined Portuguese players.

I agree 100% with José, and would like to add that many Dutch fans are whining like the English -- don't do it, accept your defeat graciously.

As for Liss, it's the name of a very nice little town in Hampshire. Pity that its homonymous individual doesn't share the same quality.

becuz maniche scored for portugal, and no one scored for holland? and portugal put up a great defence despite being at a disadvantage a couple of times in the course of this crazy match. they're well deserving winners. i just wish the match didn't get THIS bad. sigh.

Because Holland's best player sat the bench the whole time. Blame the manager for having an ego/power trip over Ruud van Neistleroy (or however the heck you spell it).

Netherlands has a very young team rt now so their players r not very used to play together...it needs time to create a super-team....but im sure at the next world cup they'll do better they even have chances to win the EURO 2008....

They played better football than Holland did today, and they defended their goal very well. They were the stronger team overall. Holland couldn't when they were 11, they couldn't score when they 10 and still couldn't score when they were 9 ~ I could even guess, even if they were reduced even further to 8 - I get the feeling thy were not going to score.
