It's when we behave like rats in a science experiment, racing to get the piece of cheese before everyone else and ignoring everything around us in order to win.
Humans who concentrate on getting rich and getting ahead, and who don't stop to help others or to enjoy the small things in life are living a "rat race" of a life.

Well the rat race is getting up way too early in the morning, going out into mad traffic, rushing around all day and working long hours. Time flies and you dont really know what you did with it. Not making time for important things and people, something u get caught up in and wonder what its all about

If I think that money is the be-all and end-all of life, my God, and then be on my toes running after my God day in and day out neglecting human beings around me, that is rat race of my life.

We are living in it at present.
When we die we will move on to the next stage of life until finally after many other levels we reach & realise the whole point of the thing.
