I live up in the northern Minnesota, resort central. It's amazing, the lakes, the trees, the people in the summer, having lived in DC and Madison, WI, this is certainly my favorite so far. As for the cold winters, who's really outside more than they want to be in the winter? It's called driving a car. Besides, it builds character.

I liked living in Minnesota but got a bug to ski mountains and never looked back. However the plentitude of fresh water and deep rich soil is always a strong lure to return.

Never been there. A friend of mine moved to Minneapolis, and said it's nasty cold in the winter.
Not so in Texas where I live.
