I've asked myself this question many times. Unfortunately, I've noticed this a lot at work. People seem as if they're intentionally trying to be rude and nasty. I do my best to ignore them, but only because I need my job. If I didn't, I'd probably tell them to buzz off. I think it's because they think they're superior to everyone else. Either that, or they have hemorrhoids (LOL).

Well, the short answer is their parents didn't teach them better manners. But that's only part of it. There are, after all, plenty of other places to learn good manners, like watching people you admire and imitating them. But then, if your parents don't teach you right, maybe you admire the wrong people, and so we're back where we started.

Sometimes it's just adolescent rebellion, sometimes it's defiance for some sort of quasi-political reason, and sometimes it's anger at not being in the sort of position (job or social position) where good manners are truly essential. Many men think bad manners are more masculine than acting like a gentleman, but in that they are wrong. From the point of view of a lady, the gentleman is self-confident enough that he does not have to act like an ape to feel like a man. A gentleman gets appreciated by a lady, and that's the feed to his sense of masculinity.

Which means, of course, that we ladies must make it a point to reward the gentlemen with our favor, and deny it to the boors.

I think they're rude because they are too stressed & self-involved to care or even think about how they may affect anyone else.
