At Sams Club they have a deal on a HP Media Center PC for $1688.74. It includes a wireless keyboard, wireless optical mouse, Dual Core processor (3.2GHz with Viiv), 2 GB of PC2-4200 SDRAM, 300 GB Serial ATA hard drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive with LightScribe Technology, A DVD Rom Drive, High Def. Audio, and a whole bunch of other stuff. (Visit Samsclub.com for more info). The graphics card is a ATI RADEON X1300 Pro with up to 256MB DDR video memory. Now, I'm a gamer, and need to know how this card performs with todays latest games (Namely Doom 3 or Starship Troopers, something that requires vertex hardware and pixel shaders). Any info will be greatly apperciated.

Probably OKAY with those games. But just okay. You won't be able to run them at maximum settings, at least not Doom 3. It's not a card I would get for a serious gamer. It's a budget card and in my opinion performs horribly. Also, you could build a much more powerful system for about $300 less than what they want for that HP but if you aren't up to the task of building your own system then as soon as you get it, you'll have to dump the graphics card it came with and get something in the area of a nVidia Geforce 7600GS or 7600GT, for the time being I do not like ATi's offerings in the mid-range graphics card. Those cards range from $130~$175 respectively so consider adding that in AS SOON as you get that computer.

To answer your second question, probably. But keep in mind, it will be limited should you want to play newer games. I stand by my original statement that you should probably trash it as soon as you get the computer. However, you should check out a review of the card over here, http://www.techtree.com/techtree/jsp/article.jsp?article_id=72820&cat_id=537&page=1 and they express many of the same concerns that I do. It's basically up to you, it's on the line of being "good enough" for now but not "good enough" for the future.

DON'T LISTEN THEM!!! You'll be able run Doom 3 at highest!!! I run it on that with my Athlon Thoroughbred 2500+, 1GB of DDR400 and ATI RADEON 9600xt INFINITY with 128MB...and x1300 in company of other hardware in your PC will be much more powerfull...x1300 is really great, but also,if I am in your place, I would think about Nvidia's 6800LE or something like that...but don't worry, you have great computer..enjoy..and yes, if you have money, and you are a REAL gamer, 7800 by nVIDIA without doubt, but I was mad because of statement for Doom 3 and other games...for now, you are OK, and at least half of a year..in the future, you'll have to change your card..

X700 is a terrible gaming card. The 1300 will be more advantageous yet will require an more advantageous means connection. look into the nvidea 6600 GT. it will be right down to that cost through now.
