It is not going to happen. The reason is there are a hell lot of angry Republicans out there that would vote out anyone that seriously tried this plan. Democrats who are not for this would need to vote for Republicans who think the same in districts and states where they have no chance to win.

If Canada controlled its borders, it would be ideal. It would be fatal to open a border with Mexico because you open it up to all of the countries south of the USA.
In an Ideal world, all of America should be free to roam as they please.
