The cooling fan didn't come on and motor got hot and then it did not run good.

yes, if your relay does not work, neither will the fan.

IIRC, the fan relay gets its'"signal" or ground when the A/C Clutch relay grounds. So if the A/C clutch relay is bad, the fan will not operate. But this is only when the A/C is ON. Otherwise, the cooling fan should come on when the engine gets to roughly 218'F,
