You should buy a digital postal scale, which measures to the gram which is more accurate. The weights will vary, but 75-150 grams is normal. The key is not the weight, but continual growth. That is why it is important to keep accurate weight of hatchlings.

If it is losing weight, over weeks at a time, that is not good. If it loses weight a little or grows slowly over a long period, several weeks, then it is time to worry.

the eastern subspecies is much larger than the western, reaching sizes up to 28 cm (11 in) in length. A specimen of this size may weigh 3-4 kg (6-9 lb). Testudo hermanni hermanni rarely grow larger than 18 cm (7.5 in). Some adult specimens are as small as 7 cm (3 in).
