A set of Kenmore appliances are going to be the best bet for the money. Other, more expensive brands like Maytag are just that; more expensive. I would avoid the digital controls at all costs. They are expensive when they break. Another good washer and dryer combo to chek out is Whirlpool, but they're more expensive.

Maytag washers and dryers are a middle of the range price wise and have fantastic staying power as far as length of service and very few repairs.

Well, go to three stores and make comparisons of what you decide to buy before you buy. Check Consumer Reports! And gee, I wish I'd gotten a gas dryer and not an electric one - found out later that electric really costs a lot more to run.

they may cost more but in the long run get front loading washer and dryers they use less water and energy.

I had my Whirlpool washer and dryer for 15 years with only one minor repair.....I bought another set but it is too soon to tell......

what ever front loaders are on sale, keep checking for closeouts and for when the new models come out, they sell off the older (but still brand new) models dirt cheep when this happens.
