I believe some Christians do not really take the time to understand and contemplate what they say they believe. It is simply easier to accept what another person says, than really think about it and truly adopt some belief as your own. Normally in the course of that sort of analysis, there can be doubt, confusion, denial. Christians who do not want to engage in such self-reflection, can seem "Zombie-ish" because they just want to say, "This is right. That is wrong." And this is done without much internal conviction.

well, it doesn't seem fair to paint them all with the same brush. It's like saying "why are women fat?" just because you've seen some big mama's. let me just say that I am a christian and have not forced my beliefs on anyone. That's why god gave us freedom. You can choose whatever it is you want to believe, it's entirely up to you. Just don't go around telling people we have suppressed our souls to a zombie like state.

I have personally never been more alive than when the holy spirit moved me. There's a much deeper understanding involved that can't be translated into language. When (if) you get there. You will understand why some christians are so dominant in their plight to get everybody saved.

I truely pray God opens your eyes and let's the light in. I hope that whichever christians have made you feel this way also see the light.

I don't think supression is the right word, more like fanatical. However, if Christians would look back far enough in history, they would find that some things in the christian faith originally came from what they called pagans or heathern. I would just like to say this, christianity has killed more innocents than those that call themselves christian would like to admit to. People who did not convert or adhere to christianity (in centuries past) or who were caught practicing their own beliefs in secrecy were tortured and executed. Look at the Salem Witch Trials or should that be murders!? Even today people who follow a different path are belittled and berated, sometimes even physically acosted by these 'good' christians. No, they don't suffer from suppression of their souls, most are simply closed minded zombies!

Mmmm, I don't know that "zombies" is the right word. I think that many people who worship as Christians believe they are truly doing the right thing. They are the way they believe they should be. Remember, regardless of religion, what is taught is subject to interpretation. Look at the Muslims...are they interpreting their teachings the way they were intended?

I am no scholar and I am not overly-intelligent but I do know that many of us who call ourselves Christians have strayed from what was set forth for the Church. If one wants to truly follow what Christ intended for the church to be, there would be no televangelists who owned a car, or a house, or any material possessions. Christ called the original Apostles/Disciples to go and preach the word and they owned virtually nothing! They were all people willing to serve one another, to sell what they had to help those who had less than themselves.

I've noticed that many of the responses you have received are of a negative nature toward Christians...they call us fanatics. Not all of us are. And while we are called to preach the Good News, I believe that God should be a 'drawing' force, not a 'driving' force. One cannot make another believe their way just by hammering the issue at the top of their lungs.

I don't know what prompted you to ask this question, but I do hope you will find what you're seeking. It's a big, tough world out there and there are forces out there that would prefer you remain in the dark and not learn any more about Christ...but don't fall prey to them.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:6-8

God bless you, my friend.

Evidently the Zombie community is pretty silent on this point. But I think they would say, to the concept of a major influx of pious-mouthed, self-righteous bible beaters into their midst, they would say, "Arrarrrhghhhrrrahrrghrraar!" [Emphasis added]
Now, Bablefish is almost silent on the translation of True Zombie, although they do have a fair vocabulary of Pidgin Zombie, used in the burgeoning trade in used NeoCon Souls and former Halliburton Stooges. Surprisingly, the going rate is "one Zombie Cucumber" for "three NeoCons" or "two-point-seven-three Halliburtons," which is a result of the sudden devaluation of GOP positioning following the domestic spying and WMDs fiasco.
To the original question, I believe that most Christians are so interested in "saving" their souls (with the National Prime Soul Savings Rate at 1.1 annual!) that they have forgotten how to invest them. A properly invested soul can return four to seven percent, if used wisely.
This low return on investment makes Christians appear cranky, parsimonious hypocrites, but really they are just timid investors who should be pitied and encouraged to drink Kool-Aid at every opportunity.

Lord, I hope not. I'm a Christian. I sure do not want to go through my life as a zombie. But... I do see how you can get this impression from how some of my "fellow" Christians tend to relate their version of Christianity. My soul is not suppressed. It is alive and well. I like it that way.

Well, some Christians definitely don't think for themselves--they follow their church's teachings or some evangelist or other. But they think it's good to submit to their leaders, so it would be rebellious or something to think for themselves.

I think in terms of religion, a lot of Christians just go on auto-pilot and get incensed over whatever their churches tell them to get mad about. They're not really free thinkers, but how could they be? Christianity as a religion doesn't really support free thinking and individuality. Conformity is very important when you have rules that could land you in eternal torment if you don't follow them exactly. But they're not zombies--if they followed all the rules of their church, then they wouldn't do a lot of the things they themselves consider wrong but do anyway. They would do exactly what their leaders told them.

But if you followed Christ's example and not necessarily all the garbage with his name tacked on it, you'd be loving and forgiving and non-judgmental and you'd try to give people what they needed even if it was difficult or it made you look like a freak. Christ is a cool religious icon and a good guy. Religion can lead people astray--nobody can tell you how to be enlightened. You have to figure that out for yourself. True spiritual growth requires you to do a lot of work on your own and think for yourself. So Christians often mean well, and most of them aren't really zombies, but they're not doing as well as they could.

Christians are the most tollerant, calm-minded religion in the modern world, which has atributed to major advances in technology, the creation of all the major private charities, lack of major wars. This was decided by a panel of aetheist proffesors at the University of California

If Christians would suppress something then it would have saved the world alot of wars. It would also make them less of a pain in the butt. I am sick of them pushing their beliefs on other people. Suppress on, I say!!

Oh I'm quite prepared to believe being a christian turns you into a zombie. You only have to listen for five minutes at the drivel that the bible clutchers spew out to know that. Being christian also remarkably reduces your ability to be compassionate and to be humane! And if your catholic, you might as well pull the plug on reality as well....
