The internal power supply has shorted out. It still works fine on battery power. It is the internal, not external, powersource, that is gone.

Is this part of the case, or the motherboard, or a separate power unit?
How much might repair be?
Is it worth it to fix it, or should I scrap it and sell it for parts?

(I have already replaced it, but thought if feasible, would have it fixed for one of my kids)

Thanks for input!

On that laptop the internal powersource is part of the motherboard, it is one that I would deffently tell a customer it is not worth fixing.

The most cost effecient fix/replacement would actually be to buy the same model of laptop either barebones(no ram, harddrive, cdrom) and swap those parts from yours, or buy the same model with a broken screen, which usually are pritty inexpensive and then swap the screens.

On 95% of laptops, the place that you plug your AC Adapter into is actually a small module soldered to the motherboard. Unless you get lucky and find something on Ebay, you're probably looking at anywhere from $350-$800 to buy the motherboard and a LOT of pain and agony to put it in. I would scrap it personally.

Goodluck!
