I live in a dorm too and one of the most important factors to avoid theft is the environment; especially if you have a roommate...if you have a private room theft shouldn't been a problem b/c you can just lock up your room and closets when you're not there, however if you have a roommate there's a risk for theft, not from the roommates themselves but their company; most thefts actually happen between their friends and people that come over to visit...so if you have a roommate, get to know them and their friends and if you're not going to be around for a long time or you don't trust them, lock your valuables up...

Another factor is what floor you're on in the dorm; if you get the first floor, never leave your windows open, it's just asking for trouble...I had a friend that used to live on the first floor, somebody tried to crawl through the window to get in their room...

Having had multiple things already stolen in my first 2 years of college, it's pretty hard to prevent it. If you have a roommate, you cant always guarantee that they will lock the door when they leave the room/apt. But you can try to get yourself and your roommate in the habit of lockin everything (doors, windows, etc) Dont leave it out in the open, play it and when you're done put it away somewhere. And I also wouldnt go around talking about it and what not. Try to keep your more expensive things a secret.

College dorms are pretty much open and unlocked constantly throughout the day. Even if you keep your door locked, your roommate will not.

If you absolutely have to have this in college, when you go tobuy it, ask what sort of deal you can get when you have to go back and buy a second and a third. Rutgers - New Brunswick? You'll be buying several.

I would say to stick with the suggestions of keeping your door locked, don't make it well known that you have an Xbox 360 and figure out a way to lock it up when not in the room or using it, like a locked filing cabinet. Good luck

First off you NEED renters insurance which guarantees that if your X-box does get stolen you'll at least get money to replace it. I'd recommend a locker/small safe or something of the sort that can be locked while you are away. Good luck and happy gaming!

Well, I don't know how useful this is, but my son's both took "foot lockers" to the dorm and locked their stuff in that when they left the room. Congratulations on your achievement.

Write down the serial number and make sure you lock it up in a chest or closet when you leave your room!

Don't let your friends take it into their rooms, lock your door whenever you are out of your room even if you are next door or in the bathroom.

umm you dont have much control over people stealing your stuff. why would you risk getting thrown out to steal a camera? its really stupid behavior and if your really going to a nice college who would be dumb enough to do that?
