Kingman is in the northwest corner of the state of Arizona. It is the county seat of Mohave County and was founded as a railroad stop in 1882 (and named after a railroad official). It is located along Interstate 40 (which follows the historic Route 66 highway) near the border with California. The town (and vicinity) has a population of about 40,000 including a growing number of retirees.

Although it is in a desert area (ie: little rain fall and often dry and dusty), temperatures are not as extreme as in the more low-lying areas to the south. Highs in mid-summer usually hit around 100 with lows at night in the 60s. In the winter months, it is typically in the 50s during the day and 30s at night.
