It depends on what you want to grow, where you want to grow it (zone and location), how much space you have, and how much sun you have.

Tomatoes need plenty of sun, but can be grown in containers.

Also look into companions gardening, there are vegetables that grow better together and some that you should keep apart from each other.

I do NOT water my veggies daily (mulching really helps)

and I only fertilize at the beginning of the season.

you may be too late to grow any veggies from seed... except radishes or green onions.. but the greenhouses at any store will still have veggies. I would start with tomatos.. just make sure to place one of thoes wire surrounds when you put your plant in the ground.. the fruit is heavy.
any water every day... and the veggies need lots of sun to ripen up. Good luck!! and get some Sevin Dust to help keep hungry bugs away.. and a big thing of cayenne pepper to sprinkle on the ground to keep bunnies at bay.
one last thing.. Fertilize!! but one use on kind as directed.. you dont want to mix fertilizers..

generally you start your garden after the threat of frost is over, but you can try it right now as longg as you water it very well as it needs it!because of the heat.also people do plant fall gardens, just as it starts to get a little cooler before fall actually sets in,that way theres no threat of it geeting to cold outside before the garden starts to produce.
