I just had my $60K maintenance service done a week ago. Suddenly the battery, brake and doors light come off this morning when I was on my way to shopping. I called the mechanic and he told the battery might need to be charged. Is this normal? I didn't have any battery problem before. What might go wrong? Thanks.

I replaced the battery yesterday, but the lights stayed on. So I went to dealer this morning. It was the alternator. Everything went normal after changing it. So glad it's still under warranty.
Thanks all replied.

You probably have a short somewhere in the vehicle. But the battery light is a charging indicator letting you know that your alternator is on the blink. If you test the alternator and it tests fine, then you more than likely have a short. The brake light could be low brake fluid or if you have ABS, the sensors at the wheels are out. The door light might be the switch at the door jamb sort of like a refrigerator has the button that shuts the light on and off. For all of those lights to come on at the same time is rare, but can signal a faulty electrical system somewhere on that vehicle. The battery might still be saved if it is reading 10 volts on a load and 12.5 without one. Best bet is a short....good luck.

Batteries have a certain life span. This can range from 2-5 years. During or after this period they won't hold a charge as well, etc. If he says it might need to be charged I would recommend that. If it doesn't solve the problem you need to buy a new battery. Charging should cost under $20 (they just hook it up to a machine for 25mins - don't let them charge you $50 for it).

If you notice that it doesn't start as easily, or your headlights dim while the vehicle is idling, etc then those are all symptoms of a weak battery.

Diagnosing computer/car problems over the internet is kinda tricky. You can TRY to get a second opinion, but that sounds reasonable, needing a battery.
