i currently have a 4.0 GPA, so does that mean if i take a language and ace it i can have 5.0? because isn't if that you find gpa by
a=4, b=3, c=2, d=1, f=0
then take those numbers and add them together by what your grades are and then divide by the number of academic classes you have? and a foreign language is academic so is it possible to have that gpa?
thanks

you COULD have a 5.0

ONLY if all the classes you take are AP (Advanced Placement--college level, etc.), not so sure about honors in your school tho, because usually when it is an AP class the grade is raised 1 point as long as it is higher than a C.
C=2 so it would turn to a 3 or B
B=3 so it would turn to a 4 or A
A=4 so it would turn to a 5, since theres no higer than A then it stays as A
so, if all of the classes in you schedule are AP, or honors in your school, and you Ace them all then it is possible to get a 5.0
tho it is hard to get all your courses in honors so thats why it is not possible to receive a 5.0 GPA
the highest ive seen so far, in my school, is a 4.24 (which is kinda sad but its because my school doesnt offer that many AP classes and my school doesnt add 1 point to honor classes)
and then again, all of this could be possible only if the grade is weighted

err, not with that system unless some of your grades are weighted. Say that you are taking six classes and you get an A, so it's 6 4s, which is 24. Then you divide by six (the # of classes). A language is academic so if you get an A in it you could add 4, which makes the total 28 but now you have to divide by 7 instead cause now you have an additional class.

No. Suppose you take ten classes and get all A's. Your GPA would be (4+4+4+4+4+4+4+4+4+4)/10 = 40/10=4.

You can't have a GPA of 5 under this system.

No, you can't. Look at it this way. Say you are taking 5 classes right now and you get 4.0 in all five.

5x4.0 = 20.0 now divide that by your 5 classes and you have 4.0

Now, add another class, your language:
6x4.0 = 24.0 now divide that by your 6 classes and again 4.0

highly doubt it, on a scale of 4.0, you cant score more than a 4.0, pretty sure
