He doesn't hear from his boss for weeks at a time then he calls at 10:30 at night on a Wednesday and tells him to be at work for an overnight job at 5:00 the next morning. When they get to the motel he is told that one of the workers will have to sleep on the floor because he will only pay for one room. He has to ask for his paycheck every week or he won't get it. He is expected to work for 12-15 hours without a break. He is expected to carry 150 pound pieces of iron by himself and if he asks for help he is ridiculed. He is expected to work in all weather-snow rain hail sleet. He is not paid by the hour or by salary but by the job and his boss decides what each job is worth which figures out to be roughly 10 – 12 dollars an hour. He never knows when he goes to work when he will get home at night. He never knows from week to week or day to day how much he will work or how much he will be paid. In all, his job is a great testimonial for staying in school. Should he find a new one?

No, this sounds like a great opportunity. You probably want him to quit so you can apply for the position. Some friend.
