It's going to hurt no matter what you do, so be honest and up front, and make a clean break, without hinting or alluding to the possibility of you getting back together. He will respect you for that, and when he gets over the pain, he will still be your friend hopefully. The woman who did that with me in the past are still my friends today, and I am 49. The ones who strung me along, I find I don't really care for now.

Honesty is the best policy as someone else says. Prolonging the inevitable, will make the person really angry with you. Of course they may be angry with you initially, but at least your being honest will allow them to set the sights somewhere else. Otherwise they will keep waiting on you to want them...
Just say we are not on the same path, direction...
I like you as a FRIEND, but as for dating you're not my type...
I'm not saying this to hurt you, but I think we were better off as friends. We are too different or we want different things in a relationship...

Well chose the method you feel most comfortable confronting him with.
A)Instant Message
B)E-Mail
C)Phone
D)In Person
E)Writing a letter
Lets pretend our boyfriend's name is Jake for example.
What dont you like about Jake?here are examples
-He is to clingy
-He moves to fast
-You simply lost intrest
Lets pretend you lost intrest in Jake so say
"Jake, in the time we have been dating i have been really really happy, but i'm starting to loose intrest and I think its the right time in my life to move on."
he should take that okay!

first thing first, if you don't want to be with him anymore call it off. don't write it in a letter whatever you do. my x did that when he wanted to see me, instead of his girl, so he called it off by a letter.not a good idea. i told him it was dumb. just tell it to him politly.
