I am trying to sell my car and the buyer wants me to sign a 'power of attorney' form. I have sold several vehicles before and have never had to sign one. What would this signature allow them to do and is it neccessary that I sign it? Thanks!!

Your signature would authorize them to do some act in your name. It's an invitation to a scam. Don't do it.

That is definitely not required. What exactly the form would allow them to do would depend on what the form says. Power of attorney comes in many forms and can let the person do things like make medical decisions or even run the person's finances. Read the form in detail before signing it and consult with an attorney if it seems sketchy.

POA are not neccessary for a care sale
once the title is signed it's trandfered to the new buyer
if any thing you MUST have him sign a liability waiver from the DMV, this will indeminfy you is he crashed the car once it leaves your possession, much less any ticket ect that may come his way on the plates / VIN of the car until it is registered. If he rufuse, DO NOT SELL HIM the car,, NEVER SIGN a POA to a stranger.

Normally, the signature allows them to do whatever the form says it allows them to do. (What does the form say?) I have never heard of any power of attorney form being necessary to sell a car in California, unless it is in order to allow somebody else to sell the car on your behalf. But that doesn't sound like what you are trying to do.

Just sign the title over once you have the money and then it is their car, they can do as they wish with it. Power of attorney would grant them control of the car while still in your possession.
