To format your harddrive you will need to get a recovery disc or a Windows CD.
No boot disc is necessary unless you are trying to install Windows 95.
The recovery disc will usually come with your computer, if you dont have one, you will need to call your computer manufacturing company and order one.
The recovery disc and the windows CD will partition your harddrive and it will wipe out your memory and start from fresh.

Just follow the setup procedure and you can reinstall it.

Choose drive, right click, choose "Format"... (If you want to format the other drive, not the system drive)

If you want to reformat the system drive, you must have OS CD to reinstall the OS, right before the OS installation, you can manage the drive partition and choose a drive which is for install the OS. And the HDD will be formated before the OS installation. (Windows XP)

reboot your computer, press the Delete key to enter the setup screen and you should be able to reformat your hardrive from there. it will wipe everything off of it, including your OS. so, if you dont have a way to reinstall windows or whatever, you need to get one before you do any reformatting.

to reformat the entire drive.....

double-click my computer
right-click local hard drive c:\
choose format

this is inside windows

otherwise you can put a boot disk into your system and restart.... the boot disk should kick in and will skip windows completely instead you will have a dos prompt...

a:\>

you type format c:

it will ask you if your sure as it deletes everything on your system.... you say yes and it will format everything for you....

now to make a boot disk go to http://www.bootdisk.com/ and download the one for your system and follow the instructions to make the disk....
