For a start, the lines on eighter side indicates a free trow
eg. when England and Germany plays and the German player was the last person to touch the ball England gets a free trow. Centerline dives the field in half as well the game will start from that line.
Line between the centre line and the Goal line indicates offside , much like in Hockey.
The Goal Box is the only area the Goalie can pick up the ball , as well any infractions inside the attacking team can get a penality kick.
Tha end line , should the defending team be the last person to touch the ball before it cross, the other team will get a corner kick.
On the other hand the attacking team touch the ball , it will be a goalie kick.

Some give you an idea of distance, e.g. horizontal striped at 10 yards apart. Others are for effect, and it looks nice compared to just plain. I also imagine it helps the groundspeople mow in straight lines too.

there are probably more reasons than this but i do know that the reffs can see if a player is ahead of the defense line of the other team and stuff like that.
