Let me get this straight, you are best friends with someone, then you decide to dump them as your best friend. You didn't explain why you don't want to be friends anymore, so if you are doing it on a whim, then maybe you never were her best friend in the first place. If that is the case, sounds pretty shallow and mean, and she is probably better off without you, so do it quickly like ripping off a band-aid, all in one pull. If she has done something that was disagreeable to the point of rejecting her as a best friend, I would say that you at least owe her an explanation as to why, or to give her a chance to explain.
When you refer to someone as a "best friend", that means through thick and thin, or maybe you use that term too lightly. I am sorry if I sound harsh, but being outwardly mean spirited to people, especially to someone who has been your friend is one of the worst things you can do in my opinion, and you will feel guilty about it far into the future, so consider wisely what you do next.

Tell it straight to her face! It's much better than just not telling her at all! If she finds out that you didn't tell her she might get more mad. Just calmly tell her when you guys are alone. Do not say it in front of people because you might embarrass her or she might embarrass you! Be careful what you say! Ask her if you guys can still be friends but not best friends. If she really was your best friend or even just a really good friend, she'll understand.

I know that this does not concern me... but what crime has this friend of yours committed to deserve this kind of treatment?
If it's something silly... it's probably not worth getting all worked up for it. Saying sorry is the hardest because it means you admit that it's your fault.
Try taking the matter into consideration (your friendship) before doing anything drastic.
If you still don't feel the same... do it gently, sit her down at a quiet corner and be honest, let her know of your grievances.
Hope this helped.

Don't say anything about her not being your best friend anymore. That would hurt her feelings and after all she use to be your best friend. Just kind of avoid her. Not hang out as much and she will get the message.

Just say to her that you need your space and that you don't want to be best fiends anymore. Life changes things and people take different turns in life. That does not mean that you can not still be friends.

i think the best way is to sit her down and tell her the truth but in a nice way because even though u might not want her to be your best friend u might still want her to be your friend.

Using the term "best" is juvenile when refering to friendship...you should have lots of friends...just call them "friends" it takes the pressure off them to perform and the pressure off you to choose just "one".

SIT HER DOWN IN A GENERAL QUIET PUBLIC LOCATION, BE NICE ABOUT IT, BUT TELL HER YOUR INTERESTS, AND OR VIEWS ARE NOT THE SAME LIKE THEY USED TO BE, AND THAT IF YOU STILL WANT TO BE FRIENDS THAT WOULD BE COOL, BUT SINCE WE DON'T KNOW IF YOU TWO HAVE BAD BLOOD OR NOT, BUT HOPEFULLY SHE WILL UNDERSTAND WHERE YOUR COMING FROM
