I am trying to sell my car and the buyer wants me to sign a 'power of attorney' form. I have sold several vehicles before and have never had to sign one. What would this signature allow them to do and is it neccessary that I sign it? Thanks!!

DON"T SIGN IT!!! warning!!!
A power of attorney has nothing to do with selling a car!
A power of attorney gives this person the right to sign your name to anything as if he were you.

You just sign over Title and/or Bill of Sale.

Now for the company I work for if we need a power of Attorney or poa signed, we need your signature to release you of obligation on the said vehicle for that state. Not all states are this way. But the ones with sales taxes is this way. Let me do more research at work and I can get back to you for your state on a retail car. I work mainly in leases right now.
