Most nursery rhymes were made up simply to scare children out of the idea of misbehaving. Don't run off into the woods alone, Stay away from sick people. Wild animals are dangerous, etc. Most were made up a long time ago, so to make memorable, they were put into verse. The modern day equivalants would be the gory films they show in driver's ED, or McGruff the crime dog.

Study the historical context of what nursery rhymes really mean.
Example.
Ring around the Rosey,
Pocket full of posey.
Ashes(Achoo)Ashes(Achoo),
We all fall down.
This rhyme is about the Black Death in Europe.
Ring around the Rosey (Rosey cheeks, symptom of the BD)
Pocket full of Posey (Flowers and scents were believed to ward of the disease)
Ashes or Achoo (Sneezing fits, or the burning of the dead)
We all fall down (Millions did)

Nursery Rhymes are bad but "Fairy Tales" are much worse. My mom used to read me "Hansel and Gretel" A relaxing little tale about two children who are abandoned by their parents and fall into the clutches of a cannibalistic serial killer who lures her prey in with sweet treats, then imprisons them, cooks them alive, and eats them. Nice. For many years when I heard the Ice Cream Man coming I would run and hide under my bed.

What about London Bridges?
London Bridges falling down
Falling down, falling down
London Bridges falling down
My fair lady
Take the key and lock her up
Lock her up, lock her up
Take the key and lock her up
My fair Lady
So basically the bridges are falling down and someone is locking a girl up someplace else. So sad.
Or what Ring Around the Posy? Which was really about a disease, wasn't it? I know I read that somewhere.

Ladybug ladybug fly away home.
Your house is on fire, your children are gone.
All except one, her name is Nan.
She crept under a frying pan.
Also, ring around the rosie is about the black plague.
Ring around the rosie- a rose colored ring appears on you're arm
Pocket full of posies-they carried flowers to block out the smell of the rotting bodies
Ashes Ashes- they burned the bodies
We all fall down- everyone died
Enjoy!

Some of the Grimms Bros. stories are evil.....Hansel and Gretel scared the heck outta me.....a witch was gonna eat them....I hate going in the woods even to this day.....If I saw a woman with a big nose with a wart on it, I'd run like h*ll....
