My mother's goldfish did the same thing and also rolled down the bottom. She read a book about goldfish and found out that if they swim upside down or roll on the bottom, they are constipated and constipation could kill them.
Go to the pet store and find Brine for Goldfish. Brine that is fed to goldfish, twice a week, helps them to eliminate their waste material better. She also found that if you give your goldfish a couple of frozen peas, with out the shell, can also give them the ability to eliminate their waste.
Good luck to you and your fish!! Pets of any kind can provide us with much pleasure and enjoyment most of our lives!

a goldfish swimming upside down is not a good sign
it's a sign that's he's really ill
i have a goldfish and he used to swim upside down and almost died. i figured out that i kept overfeeding my goldfish. i used to feed him/her (i don't know if it's a boy or girl) five times a day. now i just feed him/her once a day. now he/she's fine and doesn't swim upside down anymore. also, make sure that the water is clean all the time. i wasn't cleaning my fish's bowl every day, which wasn't good. now i clean it all the time.
you could be feeding him too much or it could be for other reasons that he's ill
hope he feels better :)

Are you interior the southern hemisphere? if so this may be widespread. that's incredibly elementary for fish sellers to purchase fish from the norther hemisphere and sell them say in Australia. This confuses the fish's organic magnetic orientation and that they are going to swim the different way up whilst transported around the equator. it works the two procedures yet maximum human beings do no longer word this effect when you consider that interequatorial fish figuring out to purchase and merchandising has been unlawful for 3 hundred years. The effect is extra stated in case you're a procedures from the equator. share this with the keep supervisor and that they are going to possibly supply you a close-by-bred fish or your a refund just to circumvent the criminal problem.

Swim bladder disorder. More then likely you are feeding your fancy goldfish flake food instead of pellets. You see the flakes that the goldfish eats eventually absorb water and throw the fish off balance. Start feeding the fish goldfish pellets and throw away the flakes.

It's called Swimm Bladder Disease. Goldfish are constantly searching for things to eat, and swallow almost anything that looks edible and can fit in their large mouths. Stop feeding it, except for half of a skinned pea. It sometimes works, but odds are against it. Just feed one or two a day (morning / night).

believe or not gold fish get gas! witch cause them to blot a little just enough to make them swim belly up. a half to a quarter cup of good old fashion Epsom salts will take care of the gas problem it will NOT HARM THE FISH, they will love you for it .

the fish is dieing. or it will soon. it has lost its ability to self balist. fiish have an "air pocket" (it's not really air but a fluid) that they use to rise and fall in the water. they reduce the size of this "pocket" to swim down and increase it to swin up.
