Dusty House?

Help please! My house is very dusty! I find myself dusting almost everyday. It is the same in the winter when the house is closed up or in the summer when the windows are open. Any ideas on how I can cut some of this dusting down?

1. replace your furnace filter, (then it will trap much of the dust just by running the furnace fan).
2. vacuum, vacuum, vacuum, rugs, especially older rugs cause a lot of dust, actually it is usually caused by the pad under the rug breaking up and becoming dust itself,
3. bathe any pets regularly, they bring in lots of dust, and their pet dander is a large quantity of the dust. (if you bath them real often, do not always use soap as this will dry their skin out).
4. When cleaning don't forget the walls, they too collect dust, and should be dusted (best by using a product like Swiffer).
5. Vacume your matresses, and turn them often , it not only cuts down on dust caused by skin cells, but makes the matress last longer.
6. Remember that most of the dust in a house is from dead skin cells, (sounds awfull, but it true) so frequent showers also can cut down on dust.
7. Some areas are just dusty from fine silt in the air, check that the weather stripping is in good shape especially on the side of the house where the wind most often hits it.

Replace the furnace filter with a pleated paper element at the very least. The fiberglass filters are made to protect the furnace from dirt, not your lungs or the furniture. Another good bet is to upgrade to a vacuum cleaner that has a HEPA filter with a bag. The bagless ones seem to let a lot of dust in the room if you dump them indoors.

First get a really good vacuum cleaner. The filters on most let the fine dust straight back out. Then use microfiber clothes to pick up the dust on the surfaces (with or without furniture polish) to pick up and hold the dust. Normal dusters push the dust around but don't hold on to it.

Try cleaning out your furnace filter. If it is full or very dirty. it won't filter the air and it tosses it right back into the room.

We just had a home inspection on the house we were buying and we thought there was no filter. The inspector from the furnace co unscrewed what looked like very permanent screws in the side of the furnace and there was a washable filter in there! It was very dirty, furnace is 5 yrs old and he said filter was probably never cleaned.

yea, those fabric softener sheets that are left over after drying the clothes, the used ones. dust with those instead of pledge or other things

the left over softener, although minimal still helps with the static that attracts dust, you will be dusting a lot less check it out! and the aroma is much nicer around the house.
