You need to download http://www.winzip.com

After you install it, you can open the zipped file with it. A Zipped file is a file that contains a bunch of files. They have all been compressed to save space. If you zip a bunch of files together and compress them into one file, then they can be easily sent to someone else via ftp or email.

Once you open the zipped file, you will see a bunch of files that are inside the zipped file. Just use the "EXTRACT" option to download all the files in that zipped file into your hard drive.

With a program capable of opening them

Windows XP can open them just by double clicking on it.

Otherwise you can download a program like WinZip and open them with that.

They are zipped so they take up less space (Zipped files are compressed) - this translates into faster downloads.

Download zip program from its site.
Open the zipped file. Extract the file you want on your desktop to see it immediately.
You can combine all the files in one file by zipping them.
So instead of attaching a lot of file, you attach only zipped file.

Use WinRAR, its the best program out there for zipped files.

Its better than WinZIP and the lame built-in Windows compressed folders utility.

So they don't expose themselves to you.

Use the built in program in XP.
