Could be a bad brake switch. I've seen it before. Either the switch could be bad or a faulty wiring harness. If the car doesn't "think" that your foot is on the brake, it won't go into gear. Hope that helps and good luck.

If it is a 2001 or newer Honda, Toyota etc. Check next to the shifter on the console. If there is a small screwdriver shaped cover remove. Insert the blade of a slotted screwdriver and try that while the engine is running. This should free up the linkage, but the bad news is that you'd better head for the dealership. This only works once.

Push the brake down harder than usual when you try to shift out of park. You might be on a slight incline. Push the car a little forward just a jerk or two and that may loosen it up. My moms car did the same thing.

i knwo it sounds stupid but make sure your foot is on the brake, alot of newer vehicles use some kind of lock out feature where the brake needs to be pressed, other than that, i dont know, if itas just a shift linkage probalem, probablyw ont cost to much but if somethign internally is wrong witht he transmission, bet on at least 2 or 3 thousand bucks
