Depends. If you're a ditsy gal with questionable self-esteem and wish to advertise that fact, go with "Kit". If not, stick with Katie and save Kate (or even Katherine) for once you get appointed to the Supreme Court. Enjoy yourself!

Katie.....kate is a 20 year olds name, and Kit reminds me of Kit Kat bar.....but kit kat bars are pretty good,its a fun name

hmm, kit sounds like a kitten which makes me think of cat which makes me think of p*ssy - your a preteen so forget that one.
kate sounds too much skate - which makes me think of i'm out of here. since you are preteen you are probably looking to get noticed and get more attention - so forget that one.
so i vote for Katie -
but then again since you are a preteen, who cares what other people think - you are more then entitled too and capable of choosing your own names, as something befitting who YOU think you are (or what to be)

They are all equally good names ... preference would be with the namer(s), or the bearer.
I have and Aunt Kit, and several friends that use Kate and Katie.
