I need my arm and leg room. If there's tons of other seats out there, they shouldn't be in my space!

Well, If I'm at the movies with a friend or two, and we want to be able to whisper to each other without getting shushed, or we just don't want anyone to sit next to us, we MAKE SURE nobody does.
Spread out, put your feet up on the back of the seat in front of you, or sit sideways on your seat with your legs in the chair next to you. Also, being loud and chatty with your friend helps.
Works every time.

Yes! It's so absurdly rude of people to sit next or even anywhere near you if there are other seats. I always make a big deal of it because I don't see why people feel the need to congregate and sit near other people. If the theatre is full, that's just a situation one has to deal with since you are in a public place, but if it is near empty it so RUDE!

Easy just put a little bit of chewing gum on it and people can be so nervous about germs that they would leave it alone but it dosent bother me anyway because when i go to the cinema i always take my shoes off and sit with my legs crossed on the seat as is the way i always sit at home and even at school.

and plus i was tempted to move when i was watching Underworld 2 as the two men next to me were talking really loudly next to me and i was tempted to "persuade" them to be quiet but the man in fromt asked them before i could.

What I used to do in situations such as this, is, when the offending person sits down. You sniff around then look at them. When they look around at you, you say something to the effect of, "Damn dude, you smell. Could you move somewhere else, before you get comfortable here?"

If he says something to the effect of he does NOT have an odor, say something like, "Well then it must be me and IM NOT MOVING." If he settles in anyway, start screaming for a manager and accuse him of touching you inappropriately.

One of em should work. But you might not get to see the movie. Do what I did: Get yourself the biggest TV you can afford and the best Home Theater and start watching your movies at home.

You are absolutely right!!! I would want my own space also, and they should too!!! Usually, if there are plenty of other seat available, no one would sit next to someone they don't know for no reason. Maybe that person is lonely, but it's still rude!

Yes I would move, but I would wait til the movie starts so hopefully nobody will do it again.

Some people are not considerate of others at all.

I live by "do onto others as you would have them do onto you."

This world would be a better place if everybody lived by that, instead of only thinking about themselves.

I say if there are plenty of seats. Just politely get up like you are going to the concession or restroom and then upon return sit somewhere else. I do not like sitting by strangers.

Absolutely! You're not obligated to sit next to anyone. We're not talking about people of different orientations, races or nationalities, right? These are folks who are loud, have B.O., cramp your space, etc. Once I was on the subway and this guy sat next to me and he was dripping wet! Yuck! I couldn't move fast enough. If people are rude enough to sit next to you in a less than desirable condition, you have every right to move...and cut them a nasty eye!

I would get up a move, or tell them that I was saving the seat for someone

I just put my jacket or my can of coke on the chair next to me when many free chairs are present for the people to sit.Once it did happen though that i wasn't wearing a jacket and was not in a mood to drink and a woman came to sit next to me so i politely told her to sit somewhere else as i was expecting a friend.Because comeon man! you deserve to relax at your own leisure when you are in the cinema to relax on the first place!
