I would kind of say any degree that is not professionally related to practice. (Like doctor, lawyer, pharmacist, engineer, etc.) Most people I know, including myself, who have liberal arts degrees are not in a career that relates to their degree!

But that being said, the process of getting a degree is a good thing, because there are a lot of practical things you'll learn on the way.

Media Arts? Maybe your current residence is just not in proximity to the area where the need for that type of work might be? Please do further research; if it's possible to re-locate; maybe you could look outside your immediate area. Maybe there is another way to do what you love; yet go through another avenue....Seems you are feeling very down right now about your choice of studies because you feel that all the schooling that you went through is virtually "worthless." I feel that people are usually drawn to what they love; if this is the case for you, keep searching and do not give up your dream! Degrees are very worthwhile.............follow your heart and the money will come
this is what a friend once told me................. "good luck."

I would say modern arts. I have a cousin who is a very talented artist, working mostly with oil paints, I think. And then she went to art school and nothing she does looks the same anymore. Its all impressionist and geometric crap that monkeys could do.
