It depends on how hard the engine was run.
Some engines may need rebuilt in this time others will last over 1000 hours.
Diesels may go over 5000 hours without a problem.

That depends on the type of engine that you have, and the year that it was buildt in. Many sailboats with small 4 cylinder diesels, that were built 20+ years ago, have 4 times that amount of time on them, and they run perfectly. Proper service at the correct intervals is the trick to longeavity.

look at it this way. do the math. that is 12.5 days out on the water running it also depends on the engine. thats alot for a 5hp putboard but for a giant inboard on a cabin cruiser that isnt alot

Nope, I got 423 on my good old Mercury and still running like NEW! Of course I properly service it regularly and take care of it correctly.
