joe cole has to be a contender, but ashley cole was fantastic today - he saved the match and has been consistently strong. beckham always puts his heart and soul in and so do terry and gerrard - although the latter did have a few slip-ups today.
i'm still not convinced by robinson and hargreaves and i wasn't with rooney either until today, but to be fair to the lad he started to show what he's made of this afternoon and if he continues like that he'll get my vote as our best player.

David Beckham to me is England's best player but there has been really good players too. like Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole, Joe Cole, and Steven Gerrard.

Today, I thought Ashley Cole played very well. Shut down the right winger at every turn and had a terrific deflection that stopped a sure goal.
Prior to that I would have to say Joe Cole.

Gerrard for me. He has a quiet strength about him which is reassuring in someone so young. Beckham also has it now, although he didn't a few years ago. Yes Cole has some of it, so he's a good one in the making. I wouldn't trust Rooney, Crouch or Lampard - yet.

Gerrard and Cole are the reasons why England is even still here...well them and a Paraguayan player some weeks back..

it has got to be Gerrard, he has played the most effecient so far, Joe Cole is not far behind. Beckham is over-rated and the sooner Mclaren comes in and gets rid off him the better

both Coles,Beckham,Lampard is an exellent player but is yet to show it. Looking at England as a whole their performance has been very disappointing.

it's got to be joe cole first. what a player has done everything right so far. then Gerrard if it wasn't for these two we would be home now. Also ashley cole has played well imo.
