I've been downgraded by my provider from 2mg to 1mg broadband and I'm downloading music and normally its quick but today I'm not getting more than 5 kb/s !!!

Its Sunday so it could just be busy. If its like that for the next few days, contact your provider and get them to test it. They'll help you sort it out if there's a problem.

Check your broadband speed (link below) if everything is up-to-speed so to speak then it's because on Weekends that when most people are online most and there tends to loads of online traffic.

It depends on who you are downloading from, and what their upload speed is.

If you are using peer to peer, i.e Limewire, Kazaa etc you may be downloading from someone who only has a modem connection, or that you are shareing the access with others.

Are you sure your not on your 56k internal telephone modem?
Likely a network problem. If a network is overload past its capacity it doesn't matter how fast your modem is. Downloads will only go as fast as your fraction of network capacity will allow.
