joke: Why did the chicken cross the road? Isn't it kind of stupid? Did someone just make it up for lack of something better to say?

It was not originally a joke. It was a philosophical question about why a chicken, who has no sort of inclination would choose(or involuntarily do so) to cross the road. It then became a joke, because people realized that philosophers were over thinking a simple question with a simple answer: to get to the other side. They had all made suggestions about circumstance and chains of events and whether or not the chicken actually chose to do so or if it was prewired to cross the road or something like that.

It is a trivia joke and there could be many answers.. depending oln the socity in which one lives. I heard that many years ago and the answer(single answer) at that time was.."To get to the other side"... today, there are several other answers

I have never heard anyone laugh at that question....so is it really a joke?
Sometimes the answers are kinda funny.

I think it's hilarious. This is my favorite all time joke. The answer is soooo obvious, that's what makes the humor.
