compare it to something that you know is a fake. Diamond is obvious when it's put next to something that's not. It's just a lot sparklier and clearer looking, it doesn't look white like fakes do. It just looks really sparkly.

Even though diamonds are the hardest substance in the world, they're not unbreakable. So dont throw it or anything.

For certified diamonds, you can see a registration number on the side under a 10-20x magnifying glass.

Your next best bet is to bring it to a store and have it appraised.

A real diamond will scratch glass.
Another way is to take it to a reputable jeweler, they have a little probe that they can use to tell. They touch the diamond with it and it tell you wether it is real or not. I don't know how it works.. but it does.

rub it against glass, if its real it will scratch..if not, no mark, and no biting it doesnt work, one you could break a tooth and two, how many average people know what to look for??

diamonds are the only gem/stone that can cut glass. also, take it to a jewelry store, they can tell you

a real diamond will cut throw glass with out a starch.

It will be as clear as glass,if it looks cloudy it is a fake, cubic zircona is for poor people trying to convince themselves that they are rich.the four cccc of diamonds are clarity count carat cut.

scratch it against glass. if it leaves a mark, then its real. if it doesnt, then its fake (or so im told).

or

you could take it to a jewlers. they normaly have an expert take a look at it and they somehow can tell.

next time you are at the mall or a big department store.. even walmart.. take it ot the jewelry counter and ask them.
