Serious questions deserve the courtesy of at least an attempt of a serious answer, but sarcasm is fun for those who are asking inane questions or being deliberate jerks.

I try, however, not to confuse sarcasm with humor. If the situation calls for humor, I use it. I'm here to have fun.

There are some that I prefer a serious response and others I want a funny, sarcastic response. It doesn't matter, becasue no matter what kind of question I ask, I get some of both.

It depends on the question. There are more that a few that couldn't possibly illicit anything other than a sarcastic response, or no response at all. I take my tone from how serious the question seems to be.

I try to feel the mood of the question. If it's a genuinely stupid question ("what's the best way to cook dog****"...yeah, I literally saw a question to that effect), I feel free to have fun with the two points I'm going to earn and answer a stupid question with an equally silly answer. Most other questions that are more in the realm of normal (like this one), I tend to answer with an honest, genuine response. And then I try to add a little courtesy something on the end of it like "I hope this helps".
I hope this helps :)

Serious. Sarcasm is something best reserved for in-person conversations. It's so hard to detect and easily misinterpreted when written down online or in an e-mail.

A serious (well thought out) response is the easiest to deal with. A sarcastic (rhetorical to abusive) response may be just as valid if it forces you to hear the truth you didn't really want to hear, but needed to hear.

Serious, definitely - humor OK but not sarcasm
