Mechanic working in bike crossed spark plug wires and bike wouldnt start. Wires were correctly placed, and bike ran fine for a week. Now, ony cylinder is lost, only runs on three. Rough running, and stalling. Bike has 37,000 miles and is a "97 Honda Nighthawk 750. Could it be a coil or a spark plug?
Thanks in advance.

Check for spark at the bad cyl with a working spark plug. If no spark, either the coil or spark plug cap is bad. Or the spark plug cap isn't making a good connection to the high tension lead (spark plug wire). To check the spark plug cap, unscrew the spark plug cap from the wire that isn't making a spark and screw it into a wire that works and check for spark.
If it's OK, snip about 1/4" off the end of the wire that isn't making a spark and screw the cap back in. Check for spark.
If the spark isn't the problem, then probably carbs need cleaning.

First do a compression test on that cylinder. If low, try adjusting (shimming) the valve clearance.

If not low, replace the spark plug and test for spark.

If no spark but good compression, check the plug wire for excessive resistance.

If still no spark but good compression and plug wire is within specs (ohm reading) , check the coil. Coils are hard to test, you might just have to swap one out.

If this bike is fuel injected, you need to check for an injector pulse as well with a "noid" light.

Start by changing all the plugs, and test for spark at each wire.

Try replacing the wires with other known good wires. The coil should be OK, but you can have that tested too. Best answer is to go to the dealership with that one, they can test coil, wires, plugs, whole show...if it's the dealership that screwed it up, they should fix it for you for free...

replace plugs, when they crossed them it fouled them out and made them weak. Replace them and it will run fine
