Drugs and alcohol may be the cause of your anxiety. Maybe you don't feel good about yourself because of the way that you are thinking. Anxiety and depression are related. Try being more productive, drink plenty of water, plenty of sleep, eat right, get some exercise and be good to yourself. The thing that has helped me the most is to practice deep breathing exercises. I have used alcohol to relieve anxiety but it makes it worse over time. Try talking to a counselor at a church or something. Some churchs actually offer psychiatric counseling. There isn't anything to be ashamed of with counseling. I did it once a month for two years. Counseling is talking to someone about the way that you think about things. They are professionally trained to help you find errors in the way that you think about things and offer alternatives to your thinking patterns. Some medicines will help to counteract the symptoms of anxiety but they won't cure it. I had to get to the root of the problem. I don't want to take medication my whole life. I started out taking Lexapro at the beginning but I don't have to take it anymore.

i'm a regular user, and i don't think that it really helps with anxiety, for most people. it just displaces it, and usually paranoia is a side effect, no?
meditation. yoga. those are my tools. (and a low dose of trazadone to help me sleep.)
