mercury has a MUCH stronger voice compared to mariah. id say his range is equal. i cant imagine mariah rocking a crowd with her vox on something like bohemian rhapsody. youd need a very versatile voice plus, she wouldnt be able to deliver as much power in the last part without that tinge of cookiemonster. and if its the mtv list of 22 greatest voices that bothers you, then you should know that any list that says eminem has an amazing voice is not to be taken too seriously.

Um I'm not going to bother insulting Mariah Carey's singing right now...all i have to say is that Freddie Mercury is THE greatest rock singer of all time, no competition at all, it is Freddie, may he rest in peace

Mariah Carey has a much wider range than Freddie Mercury did, which is more genetics than skill. It kind of depends on the kind of music you like; although Mariah's vocal quality is much clearer than Freddie's was (Freddie had a bit of gravel to his sound, which fit his style of rock music just fine, but might have sounded a little out of place if he was singing "Amazing Grace"), she also tends to ululate and use vibrato more than I tend to like -- which is fine, when considering the shifting musical embellishments common to hiphop and R&B music, but makes it more difficult to harmonize with, since you're basically singing AROUND the actual note, rather than hitting it (Queen, meanwhile, depended heavily on the members of the group forming a very tight harmony, with Freddie Mercury singing the high tenor/alto voice as the predominant lead) So if you like vocal range and R&B music, Mariah wins hands down, but if you like rock and tighter harmonies, Freddie comes out on top. Either way, it's a matter of taste and opinion.

MARIAH is better than anyone! I believe her vocal range is either a 5 1/2 or 7 1/2 octave range. (A similar singer in that range was Minnie Riperton in the 70s)..For comparison, Pat Benatar was 3 1/2 octaves. Mercury is (was) almost a male counterpart of Carey as far as range and vocal abilities.

easily Freddie Mercury. do not get me incorrect--Mariah Carey is amazingly proficient, yet Freddie sings (sang) with tremendous emotion and keenness. Mariah only likes to reveal off her variety.

how can you even think that? mariah may have a larger range but freddie mercury has the better voice. mariah is a slutwhore who lets her label dictate what her image should be. freddie mercury is completely original.
