Its called "gravid" and you can palpate the belly for follicles or eggs and you can look at the belly and see the egg lumps as the animal nears parturition ie. laying.

Depending upon what breed of snake you have look for a lump. You can bring up a diagram of snake anatomy online and see where the lump should be. For a BOA it looks like they swallowed a football.

To be honest, I didn't even know my garter snake was pregnant until one day I saw baby snakes wiggling around. Turned out that garter snakes give live birth, and you can't really tell. It depends on the species though.

if your snake has a lump that is not food, you make want to have it looked at ... sometimes they eat things that dont digest.
