Yes they can. I've had sheep for 10 years and I have seen them do it. They don't like to do did, but if they are scared or forced into a corner when you are trying to catch they will. I also showed my sheep and had to make them walk backwards at times.

yes they absolutely can walk backwards if it's in their interest to do so. Avoiding being caught, for food, watching a threat to their lambs, etc. They will do so for sort distances - it's not uncommon at all.

Yeah but like many animals they really really hate doing it..
