How good can he be? He's in his sixth season, so that's five complete seasons. IF he can stay healthy for a 20 year career, at his averages after 5 seasons (multiply them by 4 for a 20 year career), you're looking at:
3928 hits, 3rd all time behind Rose and Cobb
2516 runs, 221 ahead of Rickey Henderson's record
908 doubles, 116 ahead of Tris Speaker's record
804 home runs, 49 ahead of Hank Aaron's record
2484 RBI's, 187 ahead of Hank Aaron's record
7336 total bases, 408 ahead of Aaron's record
1604 walks, 11th all time
.418 OBP, tied for 10th all time
.629 SLG, 4th all time behind Ruth, Williams and Gehrig
.331 BA, tied for 21st all time - appropriately enough, with Musial

Pujols is 26. It's tough to predict that he'll do everything at exactly the pace that he's done it so far, especially if steriods are not involved.
These 'pace' things are dicey anyways... the last post "projected" his career numbers based on what he's done in his first five years, but look at this year alone... he was on "pace" to break the RBI record, then bamm... he's out two weeks, or whatever it was, with a minor injury. These things happen when you try to project things.
I don't think Pujols will put up the career numbers listed in the last post, but as long as he's healthy, there's no reason to believe he WON'T be considered one of the greatest ever. But Babe Ruth's shadow is pretty imposing. Even young fans today who have no clue about what he actually accomplished, will often cite Ruth as the best player ever (which he indeed was).

Way too early in Pujols' career to tell. Ted Williams is remembered as one of the best hitters of all time, but cynics always point out that he never won a World Series. Compare Pujols, or any of the Cardinal guns, to Ortiz or Ramirez when the two teams played in the World Series a couple of years ago. I hope that Pujols catches Bonds' one year home run record, even if Ferninand Rodney did accuse Pujols of being a space alien. Actually a compliment from the opposing pitcher.

I agree with the first answerer. Already in his career Albert Pujols is batting 0.331 (and this year 0.315), and he has 227 home runs (leading Major Leagues this year with 26 and if he hadn't gotten hurt he'd probably have over 30 by now), so if he continues to be this good, he'll definitely be considered one of the "greatest of all time", or at least FOR SURE get into the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately for him his peak is coming during the time of the steroids scandals [I don't think at all that he took any drugs], so people are skeptical perhaps. However it makes it easier for him to get into the Hall of Fame when guys confess to steroids because then he's obviously clean and his accomplishments look better. I hope he keeps this pace because I want him to succeed, and get into Cooperstown.

Albert Pujols as of right now is a great player. However, to say if he will be considered one of the greatest players of all time is a hard thing. We do not know whether he will be injured or even other situations may happen. Lets just say if he continues on this pace, he will be one of the greatest of all time.

IF PUJOLS plays the way he has lately...WITH MINIMAL injury...he is the only person that has the chance to Break Aaron's record besides Bonds..nobody else has his stats.
Pujols has 227 HRs to date...he averages 37.83 HRs per year including this year...he still needs 529..if he continues with his average for 14 more years giving him 20 years...he will have hit 756...while 226 is not much and he has SEVERAL people to pass...provided he stays healthy...it is definitely possible...

He seems to be the real deal. People said the same thing about griffey though and that didnt work out. They also said the sae about Arod, and while he is very good he doesnt have the special quality like a killer instinct to win the big games.

Yes, 5 straight seasons of at least 40 homeruns and his hitting is only improving. He will definately be a hall of famer, and could maybe pass hank aarons home run record.

drunkbomber said that griffey didn't work out? If 540+ home runs, several gold gloves and a guaranteed first ballot hall of famer is considered not working out, what kind of standards is he looking at?
