You're not alone, every woman since the beginning of time has experienced this, and they all survived! Ignore those that tell you you're on your own, you can talk to your mom, your doctor or your friends. Don't worry about being embarassed, people that care about you will be glad to help you. You'll be surprised, you'll see. Gather up your courage and do it! Good luck!

There is nothing to be scared of. It's a part of a woman's life and completely natural. Sure, it's disgusting in a sense but you have to go through with it. Ask your mom to tell you about all the different products that you can use to "keep clean". Remember, do NOT use the Pearl tampons...they tend to shed and leave fibers inside causing health issues. If you decide to use tampons, make sure you read the pamphlet inside the box. If you go with sanitary napkins or "pads", they are safer but a bit stinkier/messier and make sure you stay clear of the powder/fragranced ones. There are feminine deodorant sprays, I wouldn't use it because fragranced things for that region of a woman's bady can lead to infections or rashes. There are douches to help you stay smelling "fresh" but, at the same time, IF you have an infection, it will push or spread it further in. These are just words of caution to keep in mind. I know it's overwhelming but you know what kind of person you are and you will be the only one to make the decision of what you want to use. If you experience anything odd or serious pain, for whatever reason, don't hesitate to tell your mom or call the gynocologist right away. Having your "period" is like nature's way of giving you a barmitzvah or a "welcome to womanhood" party. It's a step towards being a woman but it's not the only step. Remember, being a woman is tougher than being a man but it has it's advantages and pleasant side too. Best wishes and take care.

If you're really scared, go talk to a doctor. They can work wonders. I wasn't really even aware of it when I started mine for the first time. I would suggest you have your first pelvic exam after you get your first period.
It can be just as scary an experience, and I'm still nervous whenever I have one. (I'm 21 and had my first exam at 12.) If it will help, request a female doctor and have your mom in the room with you.
If you want to make things a little easier once you start, make sure you carry pads and a bottle of midol with you whenever you can.
I used to go home a lot from school because the cramps were bad, but a hot cup of coffee, (usually black, but I like it at least a little sweet) would work wonders.
Now, it's hardly a problem. Just make sure to take care of yourself and don't let any boys talk you into doing things you don't want to do and puberty shouldn't cause you too many problems.

Just remember that being scared of the unknown is normal for everyone. If someone tells you otherwise, they are either lying or have no conscience. Puberty is a hard time for women and their fears should be taken seriously. Find someone to talk to about this and always know that even scary things usally work out. You do not have to handle this alone. I'll can't stress it enough, find someone to talk to about this. School counselor, teacher, coach, doctor, your mom or grandmother. These people can help you deal with this. It is ignorence of our bodies that causes us to make mistakes. You are beginning to start the process of becoming a woman, Congratulations.

Every girl goes through is so you know it can't be that bad. Before the girls in my class even started their period we all got little make up bags and put some pads and tampons in there and put it in our book bags or purses so that way if we started the first time at school or anywhere else we'd be ready. Also you'll know you're about to start because you get weird cravings and like to eat alot hah, you might also get pretty moody and start getting weird feeling cramps in your lower stomach. Once you know you started just take some Advil. Cramps are the worst part about puperty, but it's nothing to be afraid of. It really isn't THAT bad.

Might as well be scared of naturally growing anyway; but since we all have to accept this change going on about us, I would say start accepting the unexpected, because that's what is really "frightening," and it is also a way to see what is, or being, or God if that is what you wish to call the undefinable life we live.

It's okay! Don't be scared. the period is normal, and just an irritating factor of being a woman. Ask your mom to get you all the supplies you will need.. tampons/pads/pantiliners, and especially MIDOL!
Good luck, hun. Just be prepared and you will have no problems.

Some girls and women have it worse than others do. Perhaps you could be one of the lucky ones. Besides, starting your period means you are turning into a woman. Don't be scared to be a woman.
