I can't help you with donations, but I can help you find equipment that people are willing to give away for free. The difference is they just want to get rid of it, and don't care who takes it. Your local newspaper classifieds will have a section for advertisements of free to collect merchandise, but these things will almst always need work to repair - something boy scouts might have a great time doing if it's for their benefit.
If your only interested in good quality working equuipment, advertise your needs in your local newspaper.

Look up the Freecycle group in your area online, and join.
http://www.freecycle.org/
you can request specific things on that list, and if someone has them maybe stored away in their garage they might donate it.
