I know that lizards shed their tail when in danger. But I want to know...why does the tail keep shaking even after it has been detached fromt he lizard's body? What allows it to keep shaking? And how long will it keep shaking?
And judgning by lizards, does this mean if a human's hand is cut off, it can continue shaking? Thanks
NB: I hate lizards sooo much

This type of reaction is caused by the nerves in the tail. The lizard Sheds its tail in an attempt to get away from predators. The movement in the tail is suppose to detract attention from the fleeing lizard.

The tail keeps haking because the nerves fire off randomly, causing the tail to twitch. The object of this is to keep the predator, or whatever else is after the lizard, occupied with the tail, giving the lizard time to escape, while the predator eats the tail. It will shake either until it is eaten, or it will shake for about an hour. And no a person's hand would not shake because a human is not a lizard, or even a reptile.

There are nerves in the tail that don't just disappear after the tail is released from the body.
The same holds true if you cut a snakes head off, the head and body still move for a little while.
Lizards have this ability to keep them out of harms way, possibly eaten.

It keeps moving because of the nerves in there designed to keep it twitching. It will twitch for 10 minutes or so, it depends. Yes, this happens with humans to some degree, but not nearly as advanced because we are not designed for that.

It shakes just as a reaction. And only certain animals can do it, like chickens. So don't try it on yourself, cause humans can't.
